Welcome Back Spring Migrating Birds in
the Hilltop Reservation
Come for a bird walk in the Hilltop Reservation on Saturday, May
31st at 8:30 a.m.. All are welcome. Meet up with Phoebe Epstein of the
WildBird Center in the Courter Lane Parking Lot off Mountain Avenue in
North Caldwell. Welcome back nesting Warblers and Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks who have recently migrated north. Enjoy a walk in the Hilltop
Reservation and don't forget to download a birding checklist at

If heavy rain is falling, this event will be cancelled.
Verona
Rescue Squad Blood Drive.
The drive will be on May 23, 2008 from 4pm to 8pm at the Verona
Rescue Squad 12 Church Street. They will be giving away free $15 dollar
gas cards to anyone who donates. Appointments are preferred and can be
made through http://www.bloodnj.org.
Walk-ins are also welcome. We will also be providing juice and assorted
refreshments.
Rescue Squad Celebrates EMS Week
On Tuesday, May 20, a free American Heart Association Friends and
Family CPR course will be given at the rescue squad's headquarters at 12
Church Street from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Space is limited so please call
early for a reservation at 973-857-4760 or register on our website at
www.veronarescuesquad.org.
On Wednesday, May 21, the main event for
EMS Week will be an open house at the Verona Rescue Squad's
headquarters building at 12 Church Street from 6:00 to 9:00 in the
evening. The entire public is invited to come and learn about the
services your rescue squad provides. There will be handouts, food and
drinks, blood pressure screenings, first aid demonstrations, ambulance
walkthroughs and a rescue truck light show. All activities are free of
charge and children are welcome. This is an excellent opportunity to
meet the dedicated members of the squad.

Park Conservancy Meeting on May 15
The Verona Park Conservancy is a non-profit organization of volunteers
working with Essex County to maintain and improve the condition and
facilities of Verona Park. All are invited to attend VPC meetings on the
third Thursday each month.

8:30pm in the Verona Park Boathouse, Bloomfield and Lakeside Aves.,

There will be no Hilltop Conservancy meetings during the late Spring
and Summer. The regular May, June, July and August meetings will not be
held. We will meet again on the 24th of September, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Verona Park Boat House. Check our website for scheduled activities
in late May and June. Also stay tuned for possible requests for help

Park Show Celebrates Its 22nd Year
Jewelers, potters, glass artists and fiber artists are just some of the
130 professional fine artists, photographers and crafters coming from as
far away as Maine and Florida to display and sell their hand crafted
work at the 22nd annual FineArt and Crafts at Verona Park Show on May
17-18 from 10 am - 5pm. Park legally around the
park off Pleasant Valley Way/Lakeside.

Annual Family Bike Ride or Hike Thru The Hilltop
Saturday,
June 7, Noon
Enjoy an easy walk or bike ride at your own pace with your young
children through the Hilltop Reservation on Saturday, June 7 at noon.
(Rain date, June 8) The route is approximately 1.5 miles long and never
bothered by annoying vehicles! Bikes with training wheels are welcome.
Please arrive by 11:45 a.m.
Park in the lot behind the sports field on Mountain Avenue in North
Caldwell (Courter Road entrance to the Hilltop Reservation). The marked
route starts directly from the parking lot. Visit

Don’t bring money. The ride, beautiful scenery and memories are free. Do
bring helmets, a camera and perhaps some drinks or snacks for your
children. You may want to allow additional time to explore the many new
trails in this new Essex County Park.
Organized by the Hilltop Conservancy to
introduce this new oasis to families.
